If you've always wanted to try a real Hungarian dessert, this is the place to start! You'll have it in no time and everyone will love it!
Dough ingredients:
400g flour
200g icing sugar
250g margarine or butter, room temperature
4 egg yolks
1 lemon grated rind and juice of half a lemon
1 teaspoon of baking powder
Cream:
2 tsp. vanilla pudding
0.6 ltr milk
400g Hajdú Turkish Labneh
4 egg whites (whipped cream)
6 tablespoons of sugar
1 tsp. vanilla sugar
1 large peach jam, chopped, or fresh fruit to taste, e.g. blueberries, bananas etc.
1. Knead the dough ingredients and divide into two loaves (soft dough) and refrigerate for half an hour.
2. Meanwhile, cook the vanilla pudding in the sweetened milk and leave to cool, stirring occasionally.
3. When it is lukewarm, stir in the Hajdú Turkish Labneh, the egg whites and the fruit.
4. Roll the loaves straight out of the fridge with a rolling pin to the size of a medium-sized baking pan (you will get dough sheets about 6-8mm thick), then place one sheet in a margarine-greased and floured pan, pour the cream over it and place the other sheet on top.
5. Prick the top with a fork and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 30-45 minutes, top and bottom, until the top is nicely golden brown.
6. Let cool completely in the baking pan to ensure a nice slice.
7. Serve sprinkled with icing sugar.
